Atlantic Wind & Solar Begins Construction on Portfolio 101, Rooftop PV Assets in Ontario

Atlantic Wind and Solar began construction on portfolio 101 representing 12 utility scale rooftop solar PV assets in Ontario, Canada. The utility scale projects, comprising 12 commercial buildings in Mississauga and Brampton in Ontario, represent 1.582 MW AC and approximately 1.9 MW DC of peak power production. Capital cost on the projects are approximately CAD $9.5 million.

SolarWorld to Bring 500 kW of Carport Solar Power to Four California Parks

SolarWorld began constructing solar carports at four public parks in Thousand Oaks, Calif. The four carports total 537 kW of power-generation capacity and are expected to generate a total of 17,300,000 kW-hours in renewable energy for the Conejo Recreation and Parks District (CRPD), the local government unit that owns and operates the parks. The project resulted from a partnership between CRPD, SolarWorld and Sustainable Power Group (sPower). SolarWorld is overseeing all phases of the project, including design, engineering, procurement, permitting and construction.

Duke Energy Renewables, Integrys Solar, Canadian Solar and Community Energy Complete Solar Project in Massachusetts

Duke Energy Renewables, Integrys Solar, Canadian Solar, and Community Energy Solar completed a 3-MW solar power project in Berkley, Mass. The Berkley East Solar Power Project is co-owned by Canadian Solar and INDU Solar Holdings – a joint venture between subsidiaries of Duke Energy and of Integrys Energy Services. Taunton Municipal Lighting Plant will purchase the power generated from the project under a 25-year agreement.

ABB Wins Order to Enhance Brazil’s Power Infrastructure and Support World Cup

ABB won an order worth around $30 million from Furnas Centrais Elétricas S.A. to construct a new indoor transmission substation in downtown Rio de Janeiro to power the Maracanã soccer stadium for the forthcoming World Cup. ABB will design, supply, install and commission a new indoor substation to replace a 40-year-old installation in Grajau, near the Maracanã stadium. ABB will also install IEC-61850 substation automation, control and protection systems to enable local as well as remote control and monitoring.

Panda Power Funds to Build 859 MW Power Plant in Maryland

Panda Power Funds intends to build, own and operate an 859-MW combined-cycle power plant in Brandywine, Maryland. The Mattawoman plant will also be a “zero-liquid-discharge” plant, returning no waste water to a treatment facility and subsequently prevents the discharge into the Chesapeake Bay. Construction of the Mattawoman project will take approximately 30 months and is dependent upon financing, regulatory approvals and other conditions.

Siemens Receives $400 Million Order For Power Plant In U.S.

Siemens received an order from the U.S. for the delivery of two power plant blocks for the Liberty combined cycle power plant in Pennsylvania. Siemens will deliver two H-class gas turbines, two steam turbines, two generators, two heat recovery steam generators as well as the electrical equipment and the control system. The EPC contractor is Gemma Power Systems. The customer is an affiliate of Panda Power Funds. The order includes a long-term service agreement and has a total value for Siemens of approximately $400 million.

Siemens Wins Order for 116 Wind Power Turbines in Washington

Siemens Energy received an order from Portland General Electric for the supply and installation of 116 wind turbines. The wind turbines, each with a rating of 2.3 MW and a rotor diameter of 108 meters, are to be installed at the Tucannon River Wind Farm in Washington state. Siemens will be responsible for service for the wind turbines over a period of five years.
