Awards Named for Great Innovators of the Past
In this issue, PUF completes our celebration of the 2025 Fortnightly Top Innovators. These remarkable teams and leaders reflect every dimension of our industry’s transformation — from analytics and artificial intelligence to storage, transmission, and electrification.
Each award honors an innovator whose historic achievements continue to inspire today’s breakthroughs. Their stories, and those of this year’s winners — look for the first half of twenty-four winners in October PUF — remind us that progress in energy is always powered by imagination and collaboration.
George Westinghouse helped electrify the world through alternating current, turning the 1893 World’s Fair into a dazzling showcase of what electricity could do. It’s fitting that the George Westinghouse Award for Leadership in Innovation goes to Sacramento Municipal Utility District, where bold projects and creative thinking continue to redefine what’s possible in public power.
Florence Fogler, the Grand Lady of Heat Transfer, revolutionized thermodynamics at GE, improving turbine efficiency and expanding the reach of power generation. CenterPoint Energy embodies her spirit with the Florence Fogler Award in Energy Transmission Technologies, enhancing grid efficiency while reinforcing reliability for millions of customers.
