GE Vernova
Avnaesh Jayantilal is Chief Technology Officer for Grid Innovation at GE Vernova.
Data, data, and more data. Information overload is real for energy and utilities companies faced with the need for more data in an energy transition that is coming faster as the days tick by. How to manage all that data is the big question.
Enter GE Vernova Chief Technology Officer for Applied Grid Innovation Avnaesh Jayantilal, who knows how to drive value at every stage of the utility company's data-driven digital journey by implementing effective strategies and leveraging innovative technologies. In an increasingly data-driven world, deciphering it all to put it to beneficial use, is difficult.
It is important work brought by GE Vernova, a company that in February 2024 launched GridOS, the world's first grid orchestration software. Here, Jayantilal takes a deep dive into artificial intelligence and machine learning with all its related data and what to do with it.
PUF's Steve Mitnick: AI is a hot topic in every industry now, but what makes it a hot topic for electric utilities?
Avnaesh Jayantilal: There is a lot we do today within the electric utility industry in silos, or in a non-automated fashion, and because of that, we don't necessarily use all the available data effectively. There has been more data available over the last few years from things like LIDAR, satellite, et cetera. There are new data sources and grid automation solutions, especially from a new generation of grid sensors and devices.
