It is obvious that without clean and safe drinking water, we would all have serious issues to contend with. Dramatic as it sounds, it is true, and why the leader of the National Association of Water Companies is sounding the alarm.

NAWC CEO Rob Powelson talks frankly here about recent guidance from the Environmental Protection Agency on cybersecurity regulation for the water and wastewater industry. He also discusses how much more regulation is needed from experts such as those at Homeland Security for this precious resource. PUF's Steve Mitnick: Give a sense of what NAWC and member companies invest in and focus their attention on for water security, health, and cybersecurity.

Rob Powelson: The water and wastewater industry are viewed as needed, critical infrastructure. As an industry sector, we have spent millions of dollars in terms of our compliance regimen, building internal capacities.

I always like to tell people, "Look, we're highly regulated both at the EPA and state levels for air and water regulation. We are also rate regulated by state public utility commissions."
