Unique Conversations
Lori Burkhart is the managing editor of Public Utilities Fortnightly.
The PUF team received a warm welcome in the Magnolia State as we had made our way to Jackson. The Mississippi Public Service Commission is housed near the state Capitol in the beautiful art deco E.T. Woolfolk state office building. A memorial dedicated to Mississippi veterans of all wars is located on the grounds. History abounds in the surrounding area.
The PUF team quickly learned the PSC Staff is separate by law from the Public Utilities Staff, as evidenced by the physical division in the Woolfolk building with each on their own floor. Our first day allowed us to take in a broadband workshop for local cooperatives and our second day we sat in on a PSC meeting.
Because the PSC has three Commissioners elected from three large districts, with Staff located in two of the remote districts, we didn't get to meet everyone. But those we were fortunate to engage with are excited about their jobs. Listen in and learn about this wonderful PSC as well as what the new President of NARUC, Mississippi Chair Brandon Presley, has to say. Yes, he is related to Elvis!
