Christopher M. Coburn and Charles William Burton were confirmed by the U.S. Senate as directors of the U.S. Enrichment Corp. Both will serve five-year terms. Coburn is v.p. of the Technology Partnership Practice for Battelle Memorial Institute. Burton, an attorney, is of counsel to Jones, Day, Reavis & Pogue.

Northern Indiana Public Service Co. promoted Dorothy M. Hawkins to information technology director. Kennan J. Walsh, senior rate specialist, was promoted to senior (electric) regulatory specialist. Gregory A. Pakela joined the company as senior (electric) regulatory specialist.

Russell R. Gifford, president of CNG Energy Services Corp. president, retired Sept. 1 after 34 years. Marian Zalenka was promoted to customer service representative, retail marketing; Guy DePaolis and Paul M. Hank were promoted to cash traders. Consolidated Natural Gas Co. also hired William J. Reilly from ALLTEL Information Services, Inc. as director of computer operations, planning, and development in its information technology department.

William A. Van Wie joined Equitable Resources Energy Co. as v.p.-exploration. He was a v.p. at Penzoil Exploration and Production Co.

Stephen R. Volk, a senior partner in the law firm of Shearman & Sterling, was elected to the board of trustees of Consolidated Edison Co. of New York.
