The Alliance to Save Energy released at the end of 2023 "Demand is the New Supply - Affordable Grid Stability through Demand-Side Solutions," which identified the critical importance of active energy efficiency solutions in the residential built environment, if the U.S. is to achieve a reliable, affordable, and equitable energy transition. The paper was introduced as part of a panel discussion at COP 28, moderated by Alliance President, Paula Glover.
There is much to take in with demand as the new supply, which is why the Alliance To Save Energy's white paper followed a recent Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory/Brattle Group study, which found that immediate and accelerated investments in energy efficiency technologies would save billions annually in avoided supply-side costs, and that but for identified demand-side investments, the transition could be prohibitive.
Here, PUF and the Alliance brought together three leaders in energy efficiency to explain why demand is the new supply. Included are one of the authors of the Alliance white paper, DNV Senior Consultant Teague Douglas, together with Willow Inc. COO Bert Van Hoof, and Anndyl Policy Group SVP of Government Affairs Vincent Barnes, until recently with the Alliance to Save Energy.
