GE Vernova wants to electrify the world while simultaneously working to help decarbonize it. One of its many efforts is creating a pragmatic and prudent approach to IT and OT data integration. 

Once that occurs, the OT data can be more useful for the energy and utilities industry. It made sense to turn to a company that manages about forty percent of the world's transmission networks and thirty percent of the world's distribution networks, to find out what the data can do.

To dig deep into why OT/IT data integration matters to the running of the grid and what it means for an industry undergoing transformation, Public Utilities Fortnighty's Steve Mitnick went to the expert. PUF's Steve Mitnick: Let's start by talking about some of the big data challenges that the energy sector is currently facing, and why they are so important today?

Mahesh Sudhakaran: Today we can't just focus on big data — we have to look at energy data more broadly. When you talk about energy data, often this conversation excludes operational technology (OT) data — the data that comes from the applications that operate the grid at all utilities.
