Nevada Commissioner and moderator Tammy Cordova took the stage at NARUC's Winter Policy Summit for a discussion on recent efforts by PG&E on risk mitigation and on the related book, "California Burning." The author of that book, The Wall Street Journal's Katherine Blunt, discussed issues along with Pacific Gas & Electric Corp. CEO Patti Poppe. For a look into what the utility is up to, these excerpts are informative.
Commissioner and Moderator Tammy Cordova: Patti, you based PG&E's annual ethics and compliance training on this book. Can you share more?
PG&E CEO Patti Poppe: I joined the team in January 2021. I came in post-bankruptcy after all the issues that had occurred. I had one real objective and that was to make it right and make it safe. I had a lot to learn. "California Burning" was an important source of information for me about what happened.
We made it the central piece of our compliance and ethics training for two reasons. One, it was very well done. Two, that meant that every person at PG&E would have exposure to the book.
Tammy Cordova: Katherine, what does it mean to you that PG&E is using your book and has activated change internally at PG&E?
