Here's an update on production and prices. Post-pandemic, both the United States and Canada have reached record natural gas production levels. In Canada in 2023, we surpassed 2022 by around two percent. For the balance of this year, we expect activity to remain high.
We have significant liquified natural gas activity on the west coast of Canada. There needs to be gas to fill those boats, which will then deliver that LNG overseas. The drilling and completion of all the wells and bringing those wells online is expected to start toward the end of this year and into next year.
There is a level of uncertainty with proposed oil and gas caps, methane regulations, and modifications to carbon pricing. For those of us in the industry, they are top-line issues, and we need to get them right. But any one of those could have an effect on the viability and levels of gas production in Canada.
