This year, DistribuTECH International had a theme of "Experience the Energy Movement," with thirteen educational tracks and a massive exposition floor holding over five hundred booths. The PUF team met up with innovators making a difference with emerging technologies useful to the grid space.

 

PUF's Steve Mitnick: What is your role at IBM and what do you do every day?

Casey Werth: My team and I are responsible for building out and working across the IBM business, the energy vertical solutions, as well as strategy and partnerships. Looking at the IBM business across our discrete technology brands, as well as our consulting line of business, we have several areas of focus and investment.

Those are where we partner with distributed lines of business, as well as service lines, to create from our more general technology capabilities, discrete capabilities for the energy sector and our clients, specifically in the energy and utilities vertical.

PUF: IBM historically was a computer company, tech-oriented, but now it's so much a strategy and consulting firm. How do you bring value to a company?

Casey Werth: I'll start with some of the technology pillars we have. I run a CIO roundtable and we ask questions of them. Now, I hear from every CIO that data and automation are key topics areas.
