Duquesne Light
Elizabeth Cook is General Manager of Advanced Grid Solutions for Duquesne Light Company, where she manages and leads efforts within the transmission and distribution power grid’s operations and planning groups. To transform DLC into a digital utility of the future, Cook works with internal and external partnerships to collaborate with local, state, and federal planning entities, and universities and industry, to drive advanced grid solutions and plan for the future power grid. She is a mother of six, business owner, published author, and holds a doctorate in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.
With so many changes and challenges ahead for the power industry, it is well worth our time and energy (no pun intended) to work collectively to dig in, define, and discuss where we are heading with the new energy economy. The AEIC Distributed Energy Resource (DER) Subcommittee is a collective industry organization of utility-only members discussing the integration of grid-edge technologies.
AEIC's DER Subcommittee consists of leaders within the electric utility industry from across the country who come together to discuss the various ways that distributed energy resources can modernize and continuously improve our ever-evolving power grid.
DER is an acronym that is expansive in terminology and dynamic in definition. DER is an all-encompassing term, which represents electric energy storage, intermittent generation (i.e., solar, wind), distributed generation (non-intermittent), demand response, energy efficiency, thermal storage, electric vehicles and their charging equipment or electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), and grid-enhanced interactive buildings (GEB).
