PUF brings together three leaders in assorted decarbonization efforts to give you a taste of what to expect at Electrification 2022, the enormous event to be held by the Electric Power Research Institute. Allow them to whet your appetite. See you in Charlotte.

PUF's Steve Mitnick: What is your role at Duke Energy?

Brian Savoy: I'm the Chief Commercial Officer at Duke Energy. I run our renewables business, our natural gas business, and I'm responsible for our clean energy transition.

PUF: Why will Duke Energy be the host for Electrification 2022 in Charlotte, and what is your role in planning for the conference?

Brian Savoy: This is a huge event. It fits right into our path to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. The utility sector has been ahead of other sectors in decarbonization. Since 2005, utilities are about forty percent decarbonized.

We've got ambitions to reduce carbon emissions by fifty percent by 2030, on the way to net-zero by 2050, and we expect these targets to come in. Our goal is to beat the 2030 target and accelerate our path to net-zero. Vehicle electrification is a sector we can enable as an energy sector and enable the electrification of transportation.
