APPA's National Conference ended on a high note with remarks by United States Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm.
 

Secretary Jennifer Granholm: As public power utilities, you have a unique perspective on this clean energy transition because you see what's happening on the ground every single day. You've got a close relationship with your customers.

You have an amazing reach. You deliver electricity to forty-nine million people across the country, to nearly every state, in five territories. That's impressive. At DOE, we're eager to learn from you and work with you because this moment does demand strong partnership between government and industry.

We're already feeling the effects of climate change from these heatwaves that are straining our grid, to the hurricanes that are battering the coastal communities, the droughts, and the wildfires. They're only intensifying. It was the hottest temperature Nevada and Sacramento have ever experienced recently.
