U.S. Representative Diana DeGette - (Colorado's First District): I want to give a brief update on what some of us in Congress are working on and we think needs to be done to create a better, cleaner future.

Despite the progress that we've made over the last few years, the U.S. electricity sector is still the second source of carbon emissions in the U.S. and the pace at which we're reducing our emissions is far from what experts say is needed to avoid the worst consequence of the climate crisis.

To speed things, I recently introduced legislation to drive innovation of new technologies that will be needed to reduce the U.S. power industry's emissions to net zero. It incorporates many of the suggestions provided by APPA and its members. Here's how it works.

The Clean Energy Innovation and Deployment Act, or CEIDA, is a five-part bill with each section designed to take on a different aspect of the complex challenge we face. The first part focuses on clean energy innovation. It uses a range of measures to bring the many promising clean energy technologies to the point of commercial availability as soon as possible.
