Deirdre Lynch is Associate General Counsel at the Maryland Public Service Commission.
The PUF team had a warm welcome at the PSC offices in Baltimore on the upper floors of the William Donald Schaefer building. Maryland punches well above its weight, with an expansive grid modernization portfolio, ambitious electric vehicle and charging programs, utility-scale batteries deployed as grid assets, and more, backed up by a diverse renewable generation portfolio and nuclear power at the Calvert Cliffs plant.
PUF's Lori Burkhart: How did your background lead you to your position at the Commission?
Deirdre Lynch: From an educational perspective, I have a background in law and public policy and my undergrad degree is in economics. All of those subjects come into play in dealing with the matters that come before the Commission.
I started my career as a business consultant with American Management Systems — now called CGI — where I helped state and local government clients modernize their revenue and tax management systems. But my true desire was to ultimately attend law school. So, I decided to go to American University's Washington College of Law while balancing my full-time consulting career. After graduating from American, I was fortunate to continue at AMS in its legal department.
