The United States Energy Association begins each calendar year with its widely-recognized and much anticipated State of the Energy Industry Forum. The Forum brings together distinguished leaders from the most influential energy trade associations to share their outlooks and discuss dynamic issues facing the energy industry in the coming year.

This January, USEA's seventeenth Annual State of the industry Forum addressed the challenges the energy and utilities industry faces arising from a global pandemic, a new administration, international developments, and cybersecurity. Enjoy these excerpts.
 

CEO, Electric Power Research Institute, Arshad Mansoor: Low carbon resource initiatives are just one aspect of innovation. Let's look at what the driver is. The necessity is, how do we get to a net-zero future that many of our electric and gas utilities have already committed to by 2050, and do that while society still enjoys affordable and reliable energy? 

How do we get to this future transition where an average U.S. household earns forty-five thousand dollars, and they spend ten percent of their income on energy — gasoline, natural gas, and electricity? What is the challenge to get there and maybe this average U.S. household pays less? The energy bill goes down.

We will need to continue to clean the electric sector.
