Yesterday, September’s Consumer Price Index was released by the feds. Last month’s price for electricity — electric rates — jumped up, so we wanted to drill down.
The CPI for electricity now stands at 218.395. Yes, I know. Expressing values like these, down to the thousandths, seems like we’re overdoing it. But they don’t call them the Bureau of (Labor) Statistics for nothing.
In just five months has the CPI for electricity been this high heretofore — in June, July and August of 2017, June 2018, and July of this year. Still, this month’s value is not even seven-tenths of a percent higher than the CPI for electricity was in September of 2019. Not bad.
