NARUC's Commissioners Emeritus program was founded in 1979, forty-one years ago. The idea is two-fold. First, Commissioners Emeritus represents the interests of former state Public Utility Commissioners and facilitates collaboration among them in their subsequent careers. Second, Commissioners Emeritus serves as an experienced resource to NARUC and current state Commissioners.

For the last nineteen of its forty-one years, the group has been led by Ed Salmon, who had served as the President of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities. And in recent years, Kim Pizzingrilli, formerly of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, and Jim Sullivan, formerly of the Alabama Public Service Commission, have pitched in too as the group's other officers. Here Public Utilities Fortnightly gathered the three of them together — Ed, Kim, and Jim — to confirm that there is indeed life after serving on a state Commission.

PUF's Steve Mitnick: Is there life after being a Commissioner?

Ed Salmon: Thank you for the opportunity to discuss the NARUC Commissioners Emeritus because it's one of the most important organizations within NARUC.

It's hard for me to believe I had six years as a Commissioner and then twenty-four now as a Commissioner Emeritus. The work that NARUC does is amazing.
