New Brunswick Energy and Utilities Board

PUF interviewed regulators of nine of the ten provinces of Canada: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and Saskatchewan. And of the FERC-like National Energy Board. And of the vast northern territory Nunavut, the frozen home of Inuit villages that reaches to the North Pole.

PUF: How many Board Members are there?

Member Ervin: By our legislation, there are five Board Members, including a Chair and Vice-Chair. We are supported by a Staff of fifteen people, including our Board legal counsel, our Chief Clerk and advisors. 

PUF: What kind of utilities do you regulate? 

Member Ervin: We're governed by several pieces of legislation. The primary one is the Energy and Utilities Board Act, which establishes the Board and its general mandate.

In terms of our key areas of jurisdiction, we regulate electricity rates, natural gas distribution rates, petroleum products prices at the wholesale and retail levels, intra-provincial pipelines, and passenger motor bus rates.
