PUF's Steve Mitnick: What are some of your group's most exciting and impactful areas of research?

Andrew Phillips: The largest and most significant areas of research are asset management data analytics for transmission and distribution.

It could be data from sensors, operations, or work order management. Looking at all of this data, how do we make good decisions and have a sound technical basis for decisions?

How we do this effectively? What are the algorithms and how well do they work? Data analytics is the number-one item we're working on. It has the potential to make a big impact on reliability and on cost-effectiveness in the industry.

PUF: Millions or maybe billions of sensors are being installed on transmission and distribution infrastructure, so there's going to be much more data coming back that you're going to want to use.
