PUF: What's this white paper about?
Calvin Butler, CEO, BGE: What the GridWise white paper has done is reinforce the need for utilities to play a key role in the expansion of electric vehicle charging stations to the benefit of customers and communities.
When you look at what BGE has proposed in partnership with others under PC44, the Maryland Public Service Commission proceeding entitled Transforming Maryland's Electric Grid, we believe that together we're moving Maryland to a position right behind only California and New York with respect to charging stations and allowing the utilities to help support the accelerated buildout of infrastructure.
PUF: Tell us a little bit more about what Maryland is doing, what your company proposed, and what's the potential here?
Calvin Butler: Maryland set out with a very aggressive goal to have three hundred thousand zero-emission vehicles on the road by 2025. That goal was all driven to help it meet its Clean Air and Healthy Chesapeake Bay goals and improve the quality of life of Maryland's residents and visitors by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. If you take that framework, and those stated goals, our proposed program will serve as a catalyst.
