BGE's CEO
Calvin G. Butler Jr. is CEO of BGE, the nation’s first gas utility, Maryland’s largest energy company and a subsidiary of Exelon. He has been recognized for his commitment to corporate leadership in strengthening the communities they serve.
PUF's Steve Mitnick: Calvin, what do you do, day to day, on your job?
Calvin Butler: My number one goal is to ensure that our team is focused on delivering and meeting customers' expectations. It's all about safety and reliability.
But then it's really going about exceeding our customers' expectations every day and making sure that we're looking at how to maintain relevance with our customers in the future.
When you frame it in the context of exceeding our customers' expectations, everything we do around innovation, philanthropy, hiring, mentoring, and engagement relates to connecting with our customers on a personal level.
PUF: We say we're an asset business, but you make it sound like we're a people business.
Calvin Butler: We're absolutely a people business. We deliver gas and electricity, but we're a tech company run by innovative and talented people dedicated to meeting and exceeding our customers' expectations every day.
PUF: Tell me how diversity in your workforce comes into play. What are you all doing in that area?
Calvin Butler: We have thirty-two hundred committed men and women at BGE. Out of that thirty-two hundred, a percentage of our workforce is aging and we're getting more and more retirements every month.
