Transmission for California’s Central Valley
Anthea Hansen is the General Manager, Del Puerto Water District.
PUF: Tell us about the Del Puerto water district. And, why is it involved in the San Luis transmission project?
Anthea Hansen: The transmission project will convey the electrical services that are needed to operate certain federal facilities of the Central Valley Project. DPWD is a water service contractor in the area that those facilities serve.
PUF: Do you use a fair amount of electricity?
Anthea Hansen: Our water district does not have any facilities that require power directly, however, the United States Bureau of Reclamation delivers water to us through the Central Valley Project. We have to pay the costs. One of the cost components to getting our water delivered is Project Use Energy – electricity.
PUF: You want to keep the cost from going up too much. You want to make sure that there’s a good supply of electricity or that it’s at a good price.
