Idaho National Laboratory
John Wagner is lab director at the Idaho National Laboratory. Paul Kjellander is PUF Senior Advisor, former NARUC and Idaho Commission President.
Idaho National Laboratory (INL) leads the nation’s research in advanced nuclear energy technology. Scientists and engineers in this directorate perform research, development, and demonstration of nuclear reactor and nuclear fuel cycle technologies, nuclear fuels and materials, and advanced modeling and simulation using artificial intelligence.
In other words, INL does a lot. Its unique nuclear infrastructure and facilities, expertise, and capabilities are essential to America’s energy future. INL has many nuclear projects moving forward, some with more familiar names such as MARVEL and Project Pele, and many in partnership with other entities.
With increasing demand for electricity coming at utilities with full speed, Public Utilities Fortnightly’s Paul Kjellander looked into how nuclear power can help meet those needs and with environmental benefits. INL Lab Director John Wagner talked about the latest happenings at this important laboratory.
PUF’s Paul Kjellander: The Idaho lab has been around for seventy-five years. How has it contributed to the acceptance and advancement of commercial nuclear energy?
