Ann Rendahl is NARUC First Vice President and a Commissioner at the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission.
Incoming NARUC President Ann Rendahl addressed the Electricity Committee during the NARUC 2025 Annual Meeting and Education Conference to provide an update on work at NARUC to educate Commissioners on wildfire. A recognized expert on wildfire issues, NARUC First Vice President and Washington Commissioner Ann Rendahl talked about the digital wildfire workbook being published in parts and available on the NARUC website. The workbook is titled, “Wildfire Workbook: Guidance for Utility Regulators,” and now available is, Chapter 1: “Risk Assessment and Mitigation Planning.”
Commissioner Ann Rendahl: I appreciate the opportunity to provide an update on NARUC’s work on the financial safety and reliability risk of wildfire to utilities. NARUC has been focused on the risks of wildfires since the summer of 2024.
I’ve been leading this effort in partnership with Jody Raines and Deborah Reynolds from the Center for Partnerships and Innovation, as well as Western Commissioners, now Chair, Letha Tawney from Oregon, Commissioner Darcie Houck from California, and Chair Leo Asuncion from Hawaii, all of which states have experienced significant wildfire impacts. Also, the much-appreciated support from Department of Energy’s CESER office.
