NASEO
David Terry is President of NASEO, the National Association of State Energy Officials. Paul Kjellander is PUF Senior Advisor and former NARUC President.
The National Association of State Energy Officials, perhaps better known as NASEO, is the only national non-profit association for the governor-designated State Energy Directors and their offices from each of the states and territories. Formed by the states in 1986, NASEO facilitates peer learning among state energy officials, serves as a resource for and about State Energy Offices, and advocates for the interests of the State Energy Offices to Congress and federal agencies.
A big issue at NASEO is nuclear energy and in mid-September, the association issued a request for information (RFI) in support of the Advanced Nuclear First Mover Initiative, led by state co-chairs New York, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Wyoming, and participating states Louisiana, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia, and West Virginia. The governors of these states are committed to delivering advanced nuclear power rapidly, safely, and cost-effectively.
To find out more about the advancement of this important nuclear initiative, Public Utilities Fortnightly went to NASEO President David Terry. He provided an in-depth look at how the states are proceeding with nuclear power.
PUF’s Paul Kjellander: Nuclear has become a front-and-center issue for your association. What’s driving that interest?
