Consolidated Edison won the Fortnightly Top Innovator 2025 award ''Willliam Hammer Top Innovator in Electrification'' for its SmartCharge New York Residential Managed Charging Program Relaunch.

 

PUF's Lori Burkhart: Please describe the innovation and its positive impact.

Amelia Berman: The relaunch of Con Edison's SmartCharge New York (SCNY) residential managed charging program is a big upgrade for electric vehicle drivers across New York City's five boroughs and Westchester County.  This initiative is at the heart of the company's electrification and grid operations strategy, making EV ownership more affordable and helping the utility forecast energy demand more effectively.

The program was thoughtfully redesigned to address the unique challenges of urban living, where most residents don't have access to at-home chargers. By embracing vehicle telematics for data collection and introducing secure digital payment options, the team made joining the program easier and more rewarding.
