This month marks two years since EEI International Programs partnered with Public Utilities Fortnightly to launch a dedicated column on the global electrification journey of our industry. We used this opportunity to explore the critical issues at the heart of the clean energy transition, capturing its ever-changing and often unpredictable nature.

Since the column's inception in November 2022, we have witnessed vast geopolitical shifts, a global realignment of energy priorities, and a rise in pragmatic regional goals. There have been ambitious goals set, complex challenges grappled with, and practical considerations made.

What has become increasingly clear is that the clean energy transition will be multifaceted and rooted in local context.

A Complex Reality: Energy Security and Resilience

In the past two years, we reaffirmed that energy security and pragmatic approaches are essential in a world where millions still lack access to reliable electricity. Russia's war on Ukraine underscored the urgency of energy security and thrust energy diplomacy to the front of the global stage.
