Public Utilities Fortnightly highlights and celebrates each year the innovators at utilities and what they created. In 2024, the awards were given out in October in Washington, D.C. and the majority of the conversations with these tenacious teams were featured in the October issue.  Here, PUF brings the remaining four winners of the innovator awards: teams from Ameren, Entergy with Enchanted Rock, Ontario Power Generation, and PG&E. There is much to take in, learn from, and perhaps emulate.

PUF's Lori Burkhart: Hannah, describe the innovation and its positive impact.

Hannah Kaplan: Power Through is a simple way to meet our customers' basic needs to avoid power outages while adding to our generation mix to benefit all customers. So, essentially the innovation is providing demand-response backup gas generation to our customers along with the financing innovation, allowing us to leverage our capital to deploy those generators for the greater community benefit.

Our goal is to work with customers that are part of the critical infrastructure. That's whether it's gas stations, grocery stores, nursing homes, any hospitals, critical sites that support the broader community during storm outages.
