PG&E won the Fortnightly Top Innovator 2024 award ''Edith Clarke Top Innovator in Reliability of Utility Service'' for its Remote Grid Architecture.

 

PUF's Steve Mitnick: Describe the innovation and its positive impact.

Abigail Tinker: We put together a system that can power a customer's needs 24/7/365. We've leveraged that to remove power lines in high wildfire risk areas. We install a stand-alone power system.

It's a grid in a remote location that serves one or a few customers and removes the distribution power line so there is no risk of that power line sparking wildfire. It comes with other benefits of reducing maintenance and vegetation management in that area.
