Financial liability can be massive with wildfires and must be considered in an era of increased electric demand that also emphasizes affordability. As these big issues surrounding wildfires are raging, PUF spoke with four leaders on this important topic: Puget Sound Energy CEO Mary Kipp, Hawaii Public Utilities Commission Chair Leo Asuncion, Pacific Power President Ryan Flynn, and Rocky Mountain Power President Dick Garlish.

 

PUF's Paul Kjellander: Wildfires have always been an issue for utilities in the west, but now it seems to be the big issue. Is that what you're seeing?

Ryan Flynn: Yes. The increased wildfire risk we've seen over the last several years is the issue that is fundamentally informing our business decisions and our business operations, including what the customer experiences and how we serve our communities.
