With Plant Vogtle units 3 and 4 now complete, the four nuclear units together are expected to generate more than thirty million megawatt hours annually.

At the celebration of the project’s completion, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp was there and said, “This is history being made before our very eyes.”

U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm added, “The road hasn’t been easy, but the good times and the hard times are a down payment on eighty years of 24/7 clean power.”

Among the ceremony’s speeches came the words of Southern Company CEO Chris Womack. His company’s Southern Nuclear is Plant Vogtle’s operator. Womack said, “We have proven in the United States that we can do hard things; we can build big things.”

Kim Greene, CEO of Southern Company’s Georgia Power, one of Vogtle’s co-owners, recalled in her remarks becoming emotional spotting all four of Vogtle’s units in operation against a blue Georgia sky.
