SEARUC
Floyd McKissick, Jr. is President of SEARUC, the Southeastern Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners, and a Commissioner at the North Carolina Utilities Commission.
The Southeastern Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners, perhaps better known as SEARUC, has as its stated purpose, "the advancement and education of commission regulation through the study and discussions of subjects concerning the operation and supervision of public utilities to protect the interests of the people with respect to regulation of the Southeastern States."
Those interests are big because SEARUC covers Puerto Rico plus eleven states, which are Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. The Association is led by North Carolina Commissioner Floyd McKissick, Jr.
SEARUC President McKissick recently involved that Association in hosting a tour and sessions on Advanced Nuclear at the Vogtle facility in Georgia for regulators. Public Utilities Fortnightly's Paul Kjellander was there and took the opportunity to discuss with McKissick topics including advanced nuclear, a desire for SEARUC to play a greater role in Commissioner education, and more.
