Welcome to this month's EEI International Programs column. For this issue, we bring you excerpts from my interview with FortisTCI CEO Ruth Forbes. We discussed navigating the clean energy transition with an island energy grid, ensuring reliability, and providing opportunities for women in our industry to take on leadership roles. This interview was adapted from EEI's Electric Perspectives: Global Circuit podcast. Find the full interview here: bit.ly/GlobalCircuit-63

Lawrence Jones: Can you tell us more about FortisTCI and the islands you operate on?

Ruth Forbes: Turks and Caicos Islands used to be one of the best kept secrets, and now it's a very popular tourist destination. We are located southeast of the Bahamas and are made up of forty islands and cays, with eight inhabited islands.

We have a rich cultural history with economic traditions around fishing, farming, salt mining, and trade between the islands. The economy is largely tourism based, with the majority of our visitors coming from the United States. One of the things we are heavily focused on is diversifying our economy, especially around the financial services area.
