ABB
John Hayter and Nedra Hurley are Vice Presidents at ABB.
This year, DistribuTECH International had a theme of "Experience the Energy Movement," with thirteen educational tracks and a massive exposition floor holding over five hundred booths. The PUF team met up with innovators making a difference with emerging technologies useful to the grid space.
PUF's Steve Mitnick: What do you do at ABB?
John Hayter: My title is Vice President and I have responsibility for utility sales and marketing for the western half of the U.S. Nedra has responsibility for the eastern half of the U.S. We share the national responsibility as well for utility sales for ABB.
PUF: At Distributech, you're talking about undergrounding, so are you into that area?
John Hayter: Yes, in a significant way. If you look at what's happening globally with climate change, it's causing storm events, wildfires, all of these issues that utilities are faced with.
Sometimes utilities are the instigator of wildfires or events because they may have arcing on the line due to high wind or because of downed organic material such as trees and brush. That could also cause a spark and a wildfire.
