The 2023 Veterans in Energy Leadership Forum was held March 6 - 7 in Arlington, Virginia. Veterans in Energy President and Southern Company Director of Supply Chain Management Cassandra Wheeler welcomed attendees to the conference. This year's event was historic for its growth in attendees and sponsors, a harbinger of what is to come for this important organization.

Every year, some two hundred thousand individuals transition out of the military service and are looking for new careers. These men and women hold skills valuable to energy and utilities companies looking for and needing workers. For example, a 2021 EY survey found ninety percent of utility executives reported having too few workers with the skills needed to adopt digital technology.

One successful aspect of Veterans in Energy is bringing together service members with energy and utilities companies to help both with employment. Wheeler talks about that here. The annual event included panels on cybersecurity, power generation, supply chain, employee resource groups, and more. So be sure to attend in 2024.
