Armada Power
Eric Rehberg is Chief Engineer at Armada Power.
Armada Power has evolved over the past ten years from a Battelle research institute in Ohio, through a Hawaiian Electric/EPRI testing program, to its energy storage solution now being deployed in over ten states and Canada. Its niche is found in that ubiquitous, yet not much thought of, water heater in the home.
The time has come, according to Armada Power, to rethink the water heater. It is getting the message out to utility companies that it will turn a fleet of water heaters into a low-cost, fast, and secure grid asset. The concept sounds simple enough, a commitment to leveraging underutilized assets to enable a cleaner, more reliable grid.
But there are a lot of smart people behind the technology that makes use of the storage solution Armada Power has found in water heaters. PUF discussed how this is all came together with Chief Engineer Eric Rehberg.
PUF's Steve Mitnick: I learned about Armada Power at the NARUC Annual Meeting. Talk about your impactful offering.
Eric Rehberg: Our mission since the beginning has been to make the power grid more renewable, reliable, and cost-effective. The company spun out of the Battelle Memorial Institute, in Columbus, Ohio, which is a research institute.
