American Gas Association
Rick Murphy is Managing Director - Sustainable Growth at the American Gas Association.
The American Gas Foundation has released an important report on how to continue to improve the resiliency of the natural gas system, and to maintain resiliency of the overall energy system, especially while transitioning to renewable energy. The report is titled, Enhancing and Maintaining Gas and Energy System Resiliency.
It looks also at high-impact, low-frequency events for the vital and valuable assets necessary for the natural gas system and what that means from the regulatory, policymaking, and public perception points of view. To unpack what it all means, PUF turned to an American Gas Association expert.
AGA's Rick Murphy discusses here what the natural gas system needs for resiliency when designing future energy systems and building pathways to a low-carbon future. Enjoy the conversation.
PUF's Lori Burkhart: Talk about the need for this report on gas system resiliency in general, as that brings in reliability versus resiliency.
Rick Murphy: The report that we issued in November was a follow-on study for a project that we did in 2021. The 2021 study was focused on doing a deep dive on the characteristics of the gas system, and the gas molecule to determine, how does it position itself as an opportunity to address resiliency?
