Clara Poletti is a Commissioner on the five-member Italian Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and Environment, or ARERA. In Italian that stands for Autorita di Regolazione per Energia Reti e Ambiente. Poletti is also Chair of the Board of Regulators of the European Union Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators, or ACER, and is a member of EPRI’s Advisory Council Executive Committee.
European energy has been in the news a lot recently and will continue to be as winter comes. So Public Utilities Fortnightly reached out to an authority on the subject, Clara Poletti, a well-known European regulator, who juggles many roles at once.
She's a Commissioner on the five-member Italian Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and Environment, or ARERA. In Italian that stands for Autorita di Regolazione per Energia Reti e Ambiente.
Poletti is also Chair of the Board of Regulators of the European Union Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators, or ACER, and is a member of EPRI's Advisory Council Executive Committee. Her leadership roles set the stage for an informative discussion on what is taking place in Europe in the energy and utilities sector.
PUF's Steve Mitnick: How did your background lead you to energy regulation?
Clara Poletti: I started working at the university and my main research area was industrial economics and game theory. But the professor I was working with at the time was interested in energy and regulation. When the Italian Regulatory Authority was launched at the end of the nineties he was appointed as the first President and asked me to move there with him.
