EPRI
Kristian Ruby is Secretary General of Eurelectric.
The PUF team spoke with some of the leaders of the Climate REsilience and ADaptation Initiative to harden systems for the more adverse environmental conditions ahead. Here in this special feature are conversations with the Chief Scientist of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the COO of Southwest Power Pool, the General Secretary of Europe's electric industry association, and two leaders at EPRI.
PUF's Steve Mitnick: What's Eurelectric's role in the present energy challenges?
Kristian Ruby: As the trade body of the European electricity industry, we try to be the best possible interlocutor and also translator between the electricity industry on the one hand and broader society and especially politicians on the other hand.
That means we try to help politicians do what's right for whatever societal challenge they're up against while providing them advice. Sometimes that is straightforward messages and guidance on whatever their agenda will require to make it work for the electricity industry, while ensuring a safe and secure supply of electricity.
I start with climate, which is a big deal for us. We're convinced society has to deal with that enormous challenge of how we're burning too much fossil fuel. Our climate's changing and we need to deal with that as Europe, as the Western world, and globally.
