The American Public Power Association's Policy Maker's Council works hard to get the messages concerning public power across to our nation's legislators. Twice a year, at their Legislative Rally and fly-in, the APPA's PMC comes to Washington, D.C. to Capitol Hill and starts talking.

The concept is that elected officials, which members of the PMC are, talking to other elected officials, is a more effective method of communicating. The sharing of constituents makes for powerful allies and opens doors.

PUF was intrigued by the recent summer fly-in and wanted to know more. Enjoy PUF's discussion with the President of the Evansville, Wisconsin City Council and Chair of APPA's PMC Jim Brooks. Joining him is APPA's VP of Government Relations and Counsel Desmarie Waterhouse.

Jim Brooks: We are all policymakers. We're elected officials, commission members, people who make the decisions about the public municipally-owned utilities in our areas.
