EPRI has been researching sustainability for over a decade and now has metrics that can be used to do company assessments. EPRI's Morgan Scott explains here the difficulty in articulating value created by a focus on sustainability or ESG. There is science behind it and nonscience, too.

There is a lot to unravel here, as much of the value that drives ESG is nonfinancial and therefore difficult to quantify. How to suss out that value needed a concrete method and that is what EPRI is working on. EPRI has been building a value estimation tool called SOLVE, which is on its third iteration.
