Reliability of the transmission grid is of utmost importance as renewables are coming online and more are planned. In 2009, the Eastern Interconnection Planning Collaborative or EIPC was formed by a coalition of regional planning authorities, and its work only has become more necessary by the abundance of renewables on the horizon.
The EIPC recently released a white paper on integrating renewables into the grid, which is a must read and can be found on its website. PUF had the opportunity amidst the important work being done by EIPC, to sit down and discuss the White Paper and more.
Enjoy this talk with Keith Daniel, Senior Vice President of Transmission Policy at Georgia Transmission Corporation, also Chair of the EIPC Executive Committee. Joining him were Jordan Bakke, Director of Policy Studies at Midcontinent Independent System Operator, Zach Smith, Vice President of System and Resource Planning at New York Independent System Operator, and John Buechler, EIPC Executive Director.
PUF: Talk about EIPC and what you do.
John Buechler: I'm the Executive Director for EIPC, having been with the organization since its founding with a different hat on at the time. EIPC was founded in 2009 under the backdrop of pending events in Washington D.C. and the federal government, with the major planning coordinators from the Eastern Interconnection, including both ISO/RTO regions, and non-ISO/RTO regions.
