The transportation and industrial sectors are major sources of emissions, with economy-wide electrification a solution for their reduction. There have been numerous efforts made in this direction in favor of electrification. This panel D.C. PSC's Clean Energy Summit took a thorough look at electrification and its future in the clean energy movement. Enjoy these excerpts.

VP of Energy Supply and Low Carbon Resources, Electric Power Research Institute, Neva Espinoza: When we think about what's going to happen over the next decade and how we're going to achieve a fifty percent economy wide carbon dioxide reduction, and then beyond all the way to net zero by mid-century, we have to keep top of mind the idea of the energy system and the electric sector, maintaining affordability and reliability.

We need to weave in and consider resiliency. Over the next ten years, there are going to be a couple of core pieces that are going to enable that. Energy efficiency is going to make a huge difference in carbon dioxide reductions.

With cleaner electricity, EPRI has done quite a bit of analysis to understand how fast and deep we can go in the electric sector to enable this transition. The third core strategy that will enable the 2030 development is efficient electrification, where we primarily see this happening in transportation as well as industry and buildings.
