EEI met early June with its Road to Net Zero and took an in-depth look at the major technology and policy milestones on the pathway to decarbonization.

By tradition, the opening general session convened the CEO leadership of EEI. The CEO panel showcased a perennial favorite at the EEI annual summit, the leadership roundtable where EEI's top CEOs talk on what's preoccupying the industry C suite.

Prior to kicking that off, EEI President Tom Kuhn recognized Ben Fowke, immediate EEI past Chairman, and CEO of Xcel Energy, and noted the prior day, the EEI Board of Directors elected a new EEI chair in Gerry Anderson, the executive chair of DTE Energy. He is backed by vice chairs, Warner Baxter, CEO of Ameren, and Pedro Pizarro, CEO of Edison International.

Moderator and CEO, PNM Resources, Pat Vincent-Collawn: Gerry you are the chief architect of EEI climate change policy, and clean energy is the name of this conference. Where do we go from here? Are there reasons for optimism? Can the industry find the road to net zero?

Executive Chair, DTE Energy, Gerard Anderson: There are reasons for optimism. Our carbon emissions are down forty percent versus 2005. As of last year, there was no other sector that's really moved. Ours are dropping fast, and that'll continue.
