The American Association of Blacks in Energy held its 44th National Conference streaming live at the end of May. During the three-day conference, the Association hosted more than five hundred energy industry and community leaders.

Who will be impacted by industry operations and policy decisions to address climate change and lower our carbon emissions? The panel explored climate change mitigation and energy affordability, as well as equitable access to clean energy technologies. Enjoy these excerpts.

Moderator and President, Gray Global Affairs, Justin Gray: Climate change has dominated a lot of the political landscape, the policy landscape, and is the goalpost in much of what you do from an operational perspective or on behalf of your member companies. We have a new administration, and there's been a target of getting to net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Where should we be heading?

SVP of Policy, Economics and Regulatory Affairs, American Petroleum Institute, Frank Macchiarola: The debate around climate change has changed significantly over the past decade and to your point, the policies and proposals around it have even changed significantly over the last year.

The challenge for our industry is how to continue to provide affordable and reliable energy for a growing population while meeting the challenge of reducing emissions and addressing the risks of climate change.
