Kim Pate is Director for Utility Accounting and Finance at Virginia State Corporation Commission. Patrick Carr is Deputy Director, Accounting and Finance, at Virginia State Corporation Commission.
PUF was delighted at the opportunity to travel to Richmond virtually to visit the home of the Virginia State Corporation Commission. The Commission is a unique regulatory body with authority over utilities, insurance, state-chartered financial institutions, securities, retail franchising, railroads, and well, a long laundry list. No wonder the Commission employs over six-hundred Staff.
PUF's Lori Burkhart: How did your background lead you to the Commission?
Kim Pate: I was born in Richmond, Virginia. I went to the University of Richmond and graduated with an Accounting degree in 1989. It seems like a long time ago.
I'm coming up on thirty-two years with the Commission.
I was aware of the Commission because of watching the morning news when I applied for a position. I interviewed during my senior year and was just finishing some accounting exam when I got the call that offered me the job. I'm still here and enjoy it as much as when I started.
