PUF was delighted at the opportunity to travel to Richmond virtually to visit the home of the Virginia State Corporation Commission. The Commission is a unique regulatory body with authority over utilities, insurance, state-chartered financial institutions, securities, retail franchising, railroads, and well, a long laundry list. No wonder the Commission employs over six-hundred Staff.
 

PUF's Lori Burkhart: How did your background lead you to the Commission?

Kim Pate: I was born in Richmond, Virginia. I went to the University of Richmond and graduated with an Accounting degree in 1989. It seems like a long time ago.

I'm coming up on thirty-two years with the Commission.

I was aware of the Commission because of watching the morning news when I applied for a position. I interviewed during my senior year and was just finishing some accounting exam when I got the call that offered me the job. I'm still here and enjoy it as much as when I started.
