Eversource
Bill Akley is president for the gas business at Eversource.
Geothermal energy is a renewable source that should become more prevalent in the race to decarbonization as more energy and utilities companies make bolder announcements about dates for meeting reduced carbon goals. That energy is sitting inside the earth just waiting to be tapped into.
Of course, nothing about the innovation required for powering from renewables is that simple. Cue an expert leading the way who took a problem, methane leaks on the gas distribution system, and helped turn the situation into stricter leak reductions, as well as an innovative pilot on geothermal energy. That is the textbook definition of making lemons into lemonade.
It is also the hallmark of a leader. PUF brings you here a conversation with Bill Akley of Eversource on how this geothermal pilot came to fruition. The work involves partnerships and innovation aimed at bringing the costs down to provide this renewable resource to all. Listen in.
PUF's Steve Mitnick: Tell us about this pilot program. It's geothermal, which has massive potential.
Bill Akley: We at Eversource have been very passionate about our own industry-leading goal to achieve carbon neutrality across our operations by 2030, so we bring this mindset to all of our work.
