Journey to 2030
Gil Quiniones is CEO of the New York Power Authority.
When NYPA speaks, people listen. That's the New York Power Authority, leading the way to a clean New York energy future, via an ambitious VISION2030, to meet Governor Cuomo's timetable for decarbonizing the State's electricity system.
That includes moving toward seventy percent renewables by 2030, one hundred percent carbon-free electricity by 2040, and a carbon-neutral economy by 2050. VISION2030 has a bonus in that it will transition NYPA's natural gas plants to low or zero carbon emission technologies and commits to supplying its customers with carbon-free electricity by 2035, five years ahead of the State goal of carbon-free electricity by 2040.
How will NYPA get there? The details are fascinating and include a vast, improved transmission network, to integrate more renewables. You can learn more about how this will take place on NYPA's website at NYPA.com, with the nitty gritty about NYPA's five strategic priorities, supported by NYPA's five foundational pillars on which this decarbonization journey will be built.
PUF wanted more and went to the best source, Gil Quiniones, NYPA CEO, for a frank conversation on the realities of achieving this historic mission. Technologies, partnerships, staff, abundant hydroelectric, it's all on the table here in this not-to-be-missed colloquy.
